Abstract
In this study, shark byproduct (SB)-based tissue adhesive containing chitosan was prepared and evaluated for biomedical applications. The amino acid contents of SB extracts were over 67% (w/w). SB extracts-based tissue adhesives had less effect on L-929 cell viability than Dermabond¢ç. The adhesive bonding strength results show that the strength of SB extract glue containing chitosan was higher than those of SB extract glue and Dermabond¢ç. In the wound mouse model studies, the wounds treated with SB extract glue containing chitosan showed significantly rapid closure than other groups. Considering the results obtained, SB extracts-based tissue adhesives can have a potential in the field of wound healing.
